The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), told Reuters that average maximum temperatures in northwest and central India were 96.6 F (35.9 C) and 100 F (37.78 C) correspondingly in April. Since historical records began in 1900, these are the highest figures ever recorded for each region.New Delhi was one of the cities affected, with temperatures around 9 degrees F (5 degrees C) above normal at the end of the month. The most extreme temperatures were recorded in the last three days of April, when thermometer readings hit or above 110 degrees F. On Saturday, April 30, New Delhi recorded 112 degrees Fahrenheit, the hottest temperature of the month, but narrowly missing the city’s April record. Meteorologist and Lead International Forecaster, the all-time high temperature for April in New Delhi is 114.1 F (45.6 C).

This data comes after an unusually warm March, which IMD meteorologists dubbed “the hottest March for India as a whole since 1901.” The average high temperature in March 2022 was 3.35 degrees F (1.86 degrees Celsius) higher than the climatological norm.
Electricity shortages have also resulted from the heat, which has increased demand for electricity across India as people strive to stay cool. According to Meteorologist , at least three Indian states have enforced power cutbacks on industrial activities.

Last week, Modi also warned that the number of wildfires in the country was increasing. A fire at the Bhalswa dump in New Delhi on Tuesday, April 26 was one of the most notable. According to the Times of India, the waste was still burning on Sunday, although it was under control. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
