Lightning strike in Delaware

Two men were seriously injured Thursday afternoon after lightning struck nearby in Newark, Delaware, according to the National Weather Service.

The two had been grilling outside when the lightning struck around 4:15 p.m., EDT. There are different reports as to where the lightning struck; the NWS reported the lightning had struck a house while NBC10 in Philadelphia reported the lightning had struck a tree the two men had been standing under.

the first victim, a 31-year-old man had been standing by a grill when the lightning hit, and responders had found him in cardiac arrest.For a brief period, the man had stopped breathing, but medical responders were able to restart the victim’s heart, according to NBC10.”He actually coded and they brought him back,” John Pelletier, the neighbor of the second victim’s mother told

On the way to the hospital they said he was actually breathing so we were all praying they both were in good shape.”Another neighbor told KYWNews that the man’s lips had turned blue by the time paramedics arrived.The first victim was listed in critical condition when en route to Christiana Hospital for treatment with the other victim.

The second victim, a 37-year-old man, had suffered injuries to his chest and leg, according to WPVI. He was listed in serious condition as of Thursday evening.This incident comes two days after a lightning strike injured at least six people who had been working on a rooftop in Florida.
